Auguste van Biene, a Belgian-born cellist and composer, recorded 'The Broken Melody' on His Master's Voice 07853. Van Biene was famous for this composition, one of the best-known Victorian concert pieces for cello. HMV's 07000-series catalogue suggests a very early electrical or late acoustic recording.
