ADi Quella Pira (03)

Francesco Tamagno was the original Otello in Verdi's opera — Verdi chose him personally for the 1887 premiere — and his recordings are among the most historically significant in the entire acoustic catalogue. HMV 52678 — 'Di quella pira' from Verdi's Il trovatore — is an early acoustic pressing on HMV's single-sided series. Tamagno's records are among the most sought acoustic operatic pressings in existence.AI summary

AMorte d'Otello

Francesco Tamagno recorded 'Morte d'Otello' (the death scene from Verdi's Otello) for Victor (95002), an operatic vocal record. Tamagno (1850–1905) was an Italian operatic tenor of the late 19th century and the creator of the role of Otello. Though he died decades before this record was made, it is likely a reissue or cylinders transferred to disc, and early recordings of this role by the original interpreter are extremely rare and valuable to opera collectors.AI summary

AOra e per sempre addio
BNiun mitema

Francesco Tamagno was the most celebrated dramatic tenor of the late nineteenth century, the original Otello in Verdi's opera — chosen by the composer himself — and among the most historically important singers ever to record. This HMV DS100 disc contains the Otello arias 'Ora e per sempre addio' and 'Niun mi tema'. Tamagno recordings are among the most collected early operatic discs in existence and this disc requires expert examination before any sale.AI summary
