BDas Wandern

Sir George Henschel was the first conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and a celebrated baritone, particularly associated with German Lieder and the friend and interpreter of Brahms. 'Der Leiermann' is the haunting final song of Schubert's Winterreise. This Columbia D-series pressing most likely dates from the late acoustic or very early electrical period. Henschel's recordings are historically remarkable — he was born in 1850 and his voice links the Victorian concert tradition directly to the recorded era.AI summary
