Benno Moiseiwitsch and Nikolai Medtner, two Russian-trained pianists who enjoyed a close artistic friendship, recorded Medtner's own piano music together on HMV. The 'Round Dance No 1' from the Fairy Tales is characteristic Medtner — rhythmically complex, harmonically rich, and championed almost exclusively by Moiseiwitsch in Britain. HMV B9590 is a mid-period electrical pressing, most likely from the late 1920s or early 1930s.
