An HMV D445 disc of the Overture to Ethel Smyth's opera The Boatswain's Mate (1916) in two parts, conducted by an orchestra under 'Smythe' — almost certainly Ethel Smyth herself conducting, which would make this a rare document of a pioneering female composer directing her own work. HMV D-prefix indicates a 12-inch disc; the 'D' series includes many electric-era orchestral recordings.
