Lauritz Melchior was the pre-eminent Heldentenor of the twentieth century, and his early recordings for the Danish Schallplatte (Schall) label — before his HMV and Victor period — are among the rarest documents of his voice. Schall 72857 carries the Schmiedelied and Schwertlied from Wagner's Siegfried, core Melchior repertoire pressed in Denmark in very limited quantities.
